• I know Michael Wardle from his outstanding performance in Heartbeat as a very lovely 50-something gentleman who plays in a brass band (possibly trumpet - not sure). The reason I have such a crush on "Mikey-boy" is that I admire his looks; he has lovely dark hair and very beautiful, startlingly brilliant blue eyes. He was absolutely marvellous as Norman Taylor in Heartbeat - the only sad thing is that Norman is tragically killed off. He passes away in hospital following a suspected attack of food poisoning but it is not proved until PC Mason of the Ashfordly police force does some investigating and comes to the conclusion that Norman's band leader Les Hepplewhite's wife Brenda and her best friend Nora, who is married to Norman's closest pal Bill Budge have spiked the refreshments with toxic substances which set off the food poisoning symptoms. Nine players in the band are down with the bug, but complications set in around the medication that Norman was on for his high blood pressure. His sodium levels plummeted to a dangerous level, also the diuretics stripped his body of minerals as he had had his dosage doubled, which, together with the diarrhoea, had worsened his condition and he very sadly died within hours of his emergency admission to hospital. Aww, what a shame, poor Normie-kins! He was a married man as well - just imagine how poor Mrs Taylor must have felt when she found out she had been left widowed after she lost her adored Normie! The rivalry came to and end but too little too late - nothing could bring lovely Norman back - the band was minus one member for all time. He was probably very well liked by his fellow musicians too. Well done, Mike darling - you would win an Oscar!! -- Jane Mitchell
